Most usb soundcards don’t need drivers, which is great, because you can still use them in two years time when you upgrade your proprietory os. If you buy a big high quality rack mount interface, it may look cool in your studio, but when you go to dj at you girlfriends house party then you’ll wish you settled for a cheap usb interface that you could put in your back pack. Given the fact that you’ll most likely be using mp3 encoded at 44khz 16bit, having a sooper dooper 128khz 48bit sound card may be a waste of monney.

otherwise then due to driver errors etc,they may not have the same latency, which is a pain in the ass when you want to use one a a headphone out. It’s better to have a soundcard with multiple outputs than two soundcards. of course this will be much more critical for people who use vinyl control. Usb is actualy not so bad at all for programs like mixxx though, a bit of latency never hurt anybody.
if you have a netbook (like me) then your stuck with usb. Usb is not great for low latency audio, a pci or cardbus, or expresscard will give better results. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get a good sound card, but bear in mind the following points:
